- Teaching Philosophy-

I fell in love with teaching the moment I stepped into a classroom. I often get asked why I became a teacher, and to be honest, I ended up there by a mix of fate and luck, but I stay a teacher and work hard to improve myself continually because of the students. Watching students have an a-ha moment, and coaching them through difficult times gives me a sense of fulfillment that I had never been able to find previously. My deep level of admiration for each child continually surprises me.

Strong relationships with students are at the heart of my teaching philosophy, which has led me to have a strength-based and person-centered approach. Strong relationships are critical, not just with the student but with the families as well. The family, student, and teacher best work together as a partnership. I believe in harnessing the joy in learning and that considering individual needs and strengths is the best way to get there. Additionally, I believe in differentiation and universal design for learning principles to give all students access to learning. Finally, at the core of my beliefs is teaching students self-determination and self-advocacy. This intrinsic motivation is particularly essential for students with disabilities. I believe this is how we can begin to close the achievement gap, and I know we can make strides while enjoying learning.

Note: regardless of a student's sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, ethnicity, or culture, they are welcome and will receive love and support in my classroom.
